Are you scratching your head about what menu to choose? Do you have so many specific eaters in the family that you’ve decided to give up on planning the wedding menu altogether? Do you want to choose a menu for lunch and have dinner in the form of a buffet? Buffets have been a long-time favorite among wedding guests, and we’re not surprised at all. But let’s take a closer look at buffets. What are the advantages, and are there any disadvantages to consider?
Advantages of a Wedding Buffet
Flexibility in choice
The biggest advantage of a wedding buffet is its versatility. Within the buffet, there are usually several dozen dishes served. This allows each guest to choose exactly what they fancy. Likewise, you don’t have to worry about special diets or preferences of the guests; it’s just good to offer a diverse selection of dishes at the buffet.
Freedom of movement for guests
If you choose a buffet instead of a served menu, guests can help themselves to the dishes. However, this can lead to minor collisions or accidents. It’s necessary to consider the movement of the guests. We recommend choosing dishes that guests won’t need utensils for and won’t ruin their festive attire.
Good value for money
The third, certainly not the last, but for us, a significant advantage is the value for money. If you’ve chosen a wedding menu for lunch, a buffet is usually recommended for dinner. For us, it’s a great choice, not only considering the advantages mentioned above but also considering the budget, which will allow for, for example, fireworks.
Disadvantages of a Wedding Buffet
Less control over its course
Think carefully about the wedding buffet and expect that people will gradually trickle in for food. Do you want to include speeches from the witnesses before the meal? Do you plan to intersperse the meal with funny childhood videos or have other activities planned? In this case, a buffet might not be the best choice.
The best is usually gone quickly
Have you incorporated your favorite dishes into the buffet? The essence of a buffet is a greater selection in smaller portions. So, if you’re not among the first to go or you haven’t prepared enough supplies of your favorite dish, be prepared for the best items to disappear quickly.
If you decide on a buffet, our recommendation is: Choose poured soup and then let the guests choose from the buffet. A buffet is great for serving dinner when guests pick their food when they’re hungry and choose exactly what they fancy. Your suppliers will always give you the best advice on putting together a buffet that tastes great.
